What Are PYQs?
PYQs, or Previous Year Questions, are the actual questions asked in past editions of an exam. Solving them shows you exactly how topics are tested, which concepts repeat, and how difficult the real exam really is.
Are PYQs Enough for Exam Preparation?
No — PYQs are essential for understanding exam patterns and high-yield topics, but they can't replace building conceptual knowledge through NCERTs, standard books, and current affairs. Use PYQs alongside your core study material, not instead of it.
Is NCERT and PYQ Enough for UPSC?
NCERTs plus PYQs make an excellent foundation — NCERTs build the base, PYQs show how it's tested — but for UPSC specifically, most successful candidates add standard reference books, daily current affairs, and Mains answer-writing practice on top of this combination.
For How Many Years Should You Solve PYQs?
As a general rule, solve at least the last 10 to 15 years of PYQs thoroughly, since most recurring themes and question patterns show up within that window. Going back further can still help with topic-frequency mapping, but returns diminish once the exam pattern has changed significantly.
